Decaf: Better Than Ordinary Coffee

June 20, 2008 By: Mr. Healthy Category: Antioxidants No Comments →

My friends often tease me about my coffee consumption, but I had given up drinking soda years ago, and I needed something else to fill the need. For as long as I can remember, I have always had to have something to drink in my hand. My friends could go without, but that was never the case for me. If I’m not drinking coffee, I have a bottle of water with me. That’s just the way it’s always been for me. Once I started drinking a lot of coffee I found the joys of decaf coffee.

I drink a pot of coffee everyday, well at least when I am at home, and when it comes time to go to sleep at night, I can be too wired to sleep. I had to do something, so I went out and got some decaf coffee beans to make in the evening. Now I can enjoy my coffee without lying awake for hours staring at the ceiling just wishing I could go to sleep. I would feel exhausted, but the caffeine would stop me from getting any sleep. When I started to drink decaf coffee that all changed.

One thing I learned about decaf coffee is that most of them do in fact have at least a little bit of caffeine in them. There are some that do not, but it is often hard to roast a decaf coffee bean so that there is no longer any amount of caffeine present. I had to try a few different kinds to make sure I found a good decaf coffee, but quite honestly, the amount you will find in there won’t affect you very much unless you are very sensitive to caffeine. If even a little bit bothers you, you want to be careful to find the right brand.

I have found that decaf coffee is comforting to me at the end of a long day. On cool says I can sit down with a cup of it and relax. I am always stressed out, and I know that I have to have something to calm me down at the end of the day. Usually a chat online with friends and a cup of decaf coffee is just what I need. On the weekends, it always great to rent a movie and sit down with my husband to relax, and we both enjoy a cup together when we have the time.

Information On Alternative Medicine And Radiotherapy

May 16, 2008 By: Mr. Healthy Category: Antioxidants No Comments →

Nowadays alternative medicine and radiotherapy are a combination that is growing in popularity. Radiotherapy treatment is normally used in cancer patients, with the most common type known as external beam therapy. This name evolved because the treatment consists of a beam of radiation that comes from a very sophisticated machine. The beam is focused on the part of the body that contains the tumor, and the largest amount of radiation possible is used to kill the cancer cells.

Radiotherapy is very hard on the body. The treatments are short in duration, no more than 10 to 15 minutes. There is no pain involved with these treatments, but the side effects afterwards can be brutal, depending on the individual. Extreme tiredness and nausea, pain, hair loss, and red and tender skin are a few of the most common. The use of alternate medicine and radiotherapy together is indicated when the patient wants natural relief from the ravages of radiation side effects.

Nausea is one of the most severe side effects of radiotherapy treatments. Most of the people who must go through the treatments would do anything to get some relief from the seemingly never-ending decide whether or not acupuncture was effective in diminishing the persistent nausea and vomiting. Patients reported that they could tell a dramatic difference in the frequency and amount of nausea they had. Written records were kept by each patient of the times they were sick, and at the end of the research, these records were collated. The final analysis in this study was that acupuncture is useful in preventing nausea in radiotherapy patients.

acupressure has also been tested on groups of alternative medicine and radiotherapy believers to see if it could possibly be of help in the relief of pain, another unwelcome side effect of radiation treatments. Nearly all patients undergoing radiotherapy reported various degrees of pain that was definitely related to their treatments. Acupuncture once again proved to be effective in helping cancer patients undergoing treatments for their condition.

The Chinese medicine called acupressure works well with alternative medicine and radiotherapy in helping cancer patients control nausea. This natural technique involves massaging certain areas on the body, normally just under or on top of the skin. These areas are called acupoints, and they are supposedly interconnected with each other as well as to various organs and systems of the body. Devotees to this 5000 year old healing method say that a careful massage in a certain area can stimulate a person’s essential life force, which flows from area to area rather like the circulation of blood. A look at an acupressure chart reveals that the areas that control nausea and vomiting are directly above the kneecap, on the wrist, and about 2 inches above the wrist. People who have tried acupressure are both surprised and delighted with how quickly it relieves their symptoms.

Simply put, glutathione (GSH) is the body’s master antioxidant. It is a small protein produced naturally in our cells when certain required elements are present. It functions both as an antioxidant and an antitoxin and is a major defense system against illness and aging. Our glutathione level actually indicates our state of health and can predict longevity. Although there are more than 60,000 published papers on the beneficial effects of glutathione replacement, it is still largely ignored by mainstream medicine. . In the near future the importance of glutathione will be widely recognized because it has the ability to boost the immune system and fight off the damage of free radicals on the cells.

MaxGXL’s Patented Formula Dramatically Increases Intracellular GSH and it provides the proper nutrients needed to promote the body’s own ability to manufacture and absorb glutathione. MaxGXL also aids in liver support, thus helping the liver to function as the main production site and storehouse for glutathione.

Modern research has shown that individuals who have low levels of glutathione are susceptible to chronic illness. Decreased levels of glutathione can be brought about by continual stress upon the immune system. As we now know, a lowered immune system can bring about illness and disease. This is a ferocious cycle. While you need glutathione for a productive immune system, a weakened immune system hampers the production of glutathione.

Glutathione has been shown to slow down the aging process, detoxify and improve liver function, strengthen the immune system, and reduce the chances of developing cancer. Glutathione also works to help improve mental functions, increase energy, improve concentration, permit increased exercise, and improve heart and lung function - just to name a few.

Diabetes Normal Blood Sugar And You

April 26, 2008 By: Mr. Healthy Category: Antioxidants No Comments →

In simple terms DIABETES is the inability of the body to process sugars properly. When we consume food or drink the releases a hormone called INSULIN. Insulin is released into the blood and helps to regulate the amount of glucose in the blood. Diabetes is an illness where this control does not work correctly. The cause of this is due to one of two causes - No insulin being produced, often called type i, and requires the person to inject insulin, or secondly, Insulin is produced but the body becomes RESISTANT to it. This renders the insulin ineffective. This is normally referred type ii and is becoming increasingly common.

Managing Blood Sugar Level

The most recent studies suggest have diabetes. It is a matter of concern that fifty per cent of these people do not even know they have it. Some people have type i diabetes without being aware of it.

Food that will lower blood sugar

A normalworry for a diabetic diabetes[/spin] is Low blood sugar diet. Newly diagnosed diabetics often have no more than minor vision fluctuations which settle when blood sugar levels settle down with treatment. In the early days it’s easy to believe[/spin} years though, continual high blood sugar may gradually harm the blood vessels at the back of the eye spin]||in the retina[/spin]. This creates a condition referred to as diabetic retinopathy and the longer you have diabetes the more probably you are to have retinopathy. The danger increases further when there is insufficient management of blood sugar levels. More than 70% of diabetics notice some differences in their eyes within 15 years of diagnosis.

Retinopathy is graded as Non-proliferative or Proliferative. Non-proliferative retinopathy is the common milder form, where small retinal blood vessels break and leak. There may be some mild retinal swelling but it rarely requires treatment unless it causes hazy central vision or straight lines to appear bent.

The problem can be the result of some or all of the following: overactive pancreas, malfunctioning liver, food processing and absorption in the digestive system. The consequence of this [spin||lot[/spin] will be a worry about Low blood sugar diet

normal blood sugar level

If you notice symptoms coming on 2-5 hours after dining, there is a chance you have developed hypoglycemia. Heavy starch foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and other grain products should be avoided as much as possible. Also, foods and drinks with table sugar, honey, sucrose, glucose, corn syrup and any other sweetener that is high on the Glycemic index should be avoided. There are natural sweeteners that have little or no impact on the blood sugar level.

When using alternative sweetening products, make a point or reading the ingredients on the label and give a miss to those with high calorie and/or high-carb fillers. But avoid cooking with aspartame - its sweetness disappears with the heat of the cooking. That is why aspartame is mainly used in drinks. And it’s worth noting that if one wants to reduce your artificial sweetener usage, mixture of Splenda and Stevia is nicely sweet and almost tasteless - it seems that the Splenda ’smooths out’ the Stevia flavor.

You should not miss food in an attempt to bring diabetes under control. After meals, the body will demand the pancreas to increase the release of insulin and also the liver will shut down making more sugar. If you miss meals, these signals are not received. When you have diabetes, these signals are less pronounced. So, eat small meals regularly is the trick to keeping the insulin levels in balance and not spiking or dropping levels. If you avoid food, you body can become nervous, shaky, dizzy, light-headed, and you might start to have trouble forming structured. This is known as hypoglycemia when your blood sugar levels go too low.

Diabetes, whether it is type 1 or type 2 is a very dangerous condition and any diabetic definitely should be visiting a doctor on a regular basis. Your doctor will help you regulate your diabetes and will most likely suggest you see a dietitian. Food that will lower blood sugar is a very important part of life. Lowering blood sugar level also becomes a daily goal. High blood sugar is the enemy of the diabetic.

Diabetes cannot be absolutely regulated but, with a change in diet and lifestyle, diabetics can help manage it and live a long life with normal blood sugar level a routine achievement.

Benefits Of Foot Detox

April 19, 2008 By: Mr. Healthy Category: Antioxidants No Comments →

Many people are becoming more focused on improving their health through diet and exercise. If you want to regain your vitality and improve your future health you need to cleanse your system from these toxins. One of the most easiest and effective ways to do this is through a detox program. Detox foot baths are simple, home remedies that can be used to gently remove the waste from your body.

Detox foot pads or Detox foot patches are one of the most recent products to be used by the health and wellness industry. Although they have been used in Japan for many years, they have only recently become available in the West. They are worn on the feet at night as part of a ‘detox’ health regime.

There are many brands of detox foot patches in the market today and people have responded well to most of them. The normal content of a detox foot patch are tourmaline, wood vinegar, bamboo vinegar, a natural vitamin source, herbs, and mushrooms. These all-natural powdered ingredients contained in sachets all work together to detoxify your body of impurities.

Not everybody that has used Japanese foot pads has felt an improvement in health. But then again, this is true of just about any health product. Nicotine chewing gum has a less than 50% success rate in helping people quit smoking; should it be banned? Of course not. To the people that have derived some benefit, it has changed their lives. Some of the people that have benefited from detox foot pads have also reported similar life changing experiences.

Another form of foot detox is Detox Foot Spa. Many others have found the detox foot bath to be of help in effectively treating more major aliments including but not limited to high blood pressure and heart disease.

One of the benefits of a Detox Foot Spa is the ability to assist in dealing with obesity. While the regular use of a detox foot spa is not likely to cause the body to shed those extra pounds when it is used alone. When used in combination with a healthy diet and regular exercise. The detox foot bath can be an important part of a quality plan to create a healthier life. Working alongside the heightened metabolism rate is an increase in energy level.

A body detox can help your body balance the positive and negative energies because it will remove the harmful negative toxins. The detoxification process is both effective and gentle– the negative toxins will be drawn out through the reflexology points in your feet because of the positive charged ions in the water. Your body will push out those toxins and deposit them in the water as your feet are soaking. Learn more about how to detox your body at detoxyourbodytoday.com

Deciding On A Infrared Sauna Heater For Your New Sauna

April 14, 2008 By: Mr. Healthy Category: Antioxidants No Comments →

Saunas have been used for healing purposes for many decades. There are a few different types of saunas, even though the far infrared sauna is thought to have greater advantages over the others. These far infrared saunas are built of wood just like any other sauna, but the heater is what makes them special than others. This kind of sauna use a radiant heat opposed to a moist heat that utilizes steam. Infrared heaters directly heats the user without heating the room. This allows for the home sauna to use open air instead of an enclosed room because the user is being heated not the environment. This will not dramatically affect on the out come of the experience. Some contend that the far infrared sauna has more to offer the user than that of a Finnish sauna.

Infrared is a form of radiation that is not harmful to humans and has a wavelength above visible light and shorter than radio waves. The sauna heater heats the skin directly without heating the room. These infrared waves are the same kind of radiant waves that the sun emits, but sauna heaters do not emitt harmful ultraviolet rays that you receive from the sun.

The far infrared sauna contains a special heater that was designed specifically for a home sauna. The unit is normally located in an enclosed space in the home sauna. The room is just like any other home sauna and the sauna heater actually emits the infrared waves. This allows the operating temperature to be less than a traditional sauna. The average far infrared sauna temperature is about 130 degrees. This still allows the body to sweat during the cooling off process. This is when the body releases the unwanted toxins that are in the body. The reduced temperatures in the home sauna allows for the user to stay in for a longer time. This forces the user to sweat more helping the body to release more harmful toxins and gives additional time to relax.

Many people derive health benefits from the therapy that the far infrared sauna provides. The heat can help eliminate pain associated with Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions. The heat can also help reduce swelling that coincides with these conditions. Saunas can also help with reducing stress, though there are precautions for those who have had strokes that want to partake in a sauna. There is the traditional cold plunge after the use of the sauna this is not a good idea for these people. The abrupt change in temperature can reduce blood pressure to dangerous levels so be cautious when participating in this type the process.

Organic Vitamins for health

November 21, 2007 By: Mr. Healthy Category: Antioxidants No Comments →

Vitamins are micro nutrients, organic in nature that the body requires in small does in order to maintain life at an optimum level. Vitamins are most easily found from supplements or even better from the foods in our diet.

As a society geared towards consumption, we are confronted with an unprecedented choice of vitamins, as daily supplements or multi vitamin super duper and multi boosted tablets of sheer vitamin power and yet an increasing number of Americans are chronically ill.

Even the foods we buy boast products that include vitamins (in fact these “vitamins” are almost always chemicals components).

We are what we eat and in a country where billions of dollars of synthetic vitamins are spent on a yearly basis, the overall state of our health seems to indicate that those synthetically produced nutrients are falling short of the promises on their labels.

And so as the realization that these synthetic chemical vitamin products are not the real deal gradually becomes evident in our mind, the problem we now face is where to find, the good vitamins that our body craves.

The answer to that question is simple. Just as the food we eat should be organic, so do the vitamins we take as supplements. If there is one message that one needs to remember, it is that when it comes to vitamins, nothing compares with organic food which when consume provide our body with all the necessary nutrients it needs for its well being!

However the truth is even with best intentions, it is not always easy to consume a diet that is balanced and varied enough to give our body all the nutrients it needs for optimal health.

So in a world where not all vitamins are created equals, the key is to stay away from synthetic vitamins and take organic vitamins instead.

Sleep well and lose weight!

October 26, 2007 By: Mr. Healthy Category: Antioxidants, Herbal Remedies No Comments →

One of the most common complaints that health professional now hear from their patient is that they are tired. Sleep deprivation is a growing and worrying trend in a nation that now averages 7 hours of sleep a day compared to the 8 hours back in the 50s. As a result of this, we do not perform our jobs as well as we could, and as a result, when job performance diminishes, so do production outputs. The economy as a whole then suffers the consequences.

But it is not just the economy that is a victim of our lack of sleep. Indeed, new evidence brought forward in recent research studies indicates that millions of chronically sleep-deprived Americans put their very own health at risk. There is a definite link between sleep and health on the one hand, bad sleep and disease on the other. High Blood pressure for example, a major factor in heart attack risks increases with lack of sleep. After all blood pressure and heart rate are at their lowest during sleep and so people who sleep less are more likely to see an increase in their hypertension. This link can also explain other findings putting lack of sleep with an increased risk of diabetes, weight gain and other problems.

Yes! Weight Gain! And if this correlation between weight and sleep surprises you, let me remind you that as the duration of our sleep has diminished over time, this trend has also coincided with an increase in obesity. In fact, recent research indicates that people who do sleep enough are more like to gain weight. There is simple and powerful evidence behind this to suggest that sleep deprivation causes a reduction in metabolism and at the same time an increase in appetite.

Indeed, inadequate sleep duration increases the levels of grehlin, a hormone responsible for making us hungry and decreases the levels of leptin, the hormone responsible for making us feel full! Sleep deprivation is also a factor in our choice of food making us crave for food that is high in carbohydrate and sugar. This is caused from the fact that sleep loss decreases insulin sensitivity increasing our risks of developing type 2 diabetes.

How about that then for all of us doing our best to achieve weight loss! It would seem that if you want to lose weight and lose fat, start by making sure you have a good night sleep!

can acupuncture help improve your fertility?

September 25, 2007 By: Mr. Healthy Category: Antioxidants No Comments →

Most folks don’t think of acupuncture when thinking about infertility but years of this type of therapy have substantiated that acupuncture is here to stay and follows one of the best models for health.

You’ll need to find a local acupuncturist but since this artistic health modality is growing so quickly you are likely to find one quite easily. You should be careful when choosing an acupuncturist and find one that really does have good experience and isn’t a new ‘kid on the block’ because unless someone is just a ‘natural’ it’s going to take them some time to get skilled.

Whether you are just wanting to see an acupuncturist for infertility or maybe for a health problem or you are thinking of getting into acupuncture yourself you’ll find useful posts on my newest website. One of my latest posts is on acupuncture schools and there are also recent posts about other health stuff such as using fish oils for supplementation.

See you on the site.

Healthy Lifestyle - Manage Your Stress

August 31, 2007 By: Mr. Healthy Category: Antioxidants, Green Tea No Comments →

Now many people work much better under stress assuming that the stressor is related to the work you are doing. So, for example:
If you have a deadline to meet for getting a piece of work done and that deadline is close, your stress levels will increase as you rush to complete the job. Usually your output will increase because you can make decisions quicker and are less prone to deliberating about what to do next. You just think it through and do it. We certainly tend to be more motivated when under this type of stress.

Now this is good assuming that it is in relatively short bursts. But if you try to sustain this high stress working then productivity will drop and your health may be affected. You will start making mistakes and then have to spend even more time correcting things which in turn puts pressure on future deadlines. The problem occurs when we have deadline after deadline and impossible targets to achieve.

So what to do? Well this will depend on your exact situation but pretty much without exception taking time out to plan what you have to do will help. You also have to accept that things can’t stay as they are. So either you have to find a way of getting things done quicker. Or you just have to come clean and admit that something is going to be late. If it is going to be late then best to say something now and react accordingly than to wait until it is late and then admit it to yourself.
