Cause Of Panic Attacks
Do you know the cause of panic attacks?
Well panic attacks seem to happen out of nowhere. So we will ask, what is the reason or cause of panic or fright attacks? Like one moment you are ok, and the very next moment you start crying. Yet many patients fail to realize that the panic attack does not just happen out of nowhere. Thus, many patients fail to know that panic attacks are result of just nowhere. Initially the attack is caused by a certain stimulus. It could be anything including a particular place, smell or person. Anyways for preventing the panic attacks; it is must to lower down the causes.
Now there can be an internal or external cause of panic attack. Internal triggers includes the panic attacks like memories, feelings, certain thoughts, and physical sensations e.g. headaches. While external causes of panic attacks include sudden changes in lighting, temperature, or sound level, strange smells or sounds, and certain places.
However why should a certain smell or taste cause a panic attack? Try Think of a person having peanut allergy. Peanuts usually are harmless to the body, and normal people’s immune systems do not react. But then to a person suffering from peanuts allergy, peanuts are like deadly poison and he/she starts reacting as soon as the peanut is consumed. Similarly, the panic attack sufferer may have inherited a very sensitive nervous system that overreacts to harmless stimuli.
What makes this happen? Now suppose your trigger is a texture of linen. You are travelling and happen to spend a night at motel. You get into the bed having linen sheets. For some reasons, you start sweating. You definitely do not want to have another panic attack. The fear begins to crawl until your attack gets mature.
STAYING AWAY FROM TRIGGERS AND THINGS THAT CAUSE PANIC ATTACKS:
In an ideal world, you want to avoid your triggers. Just by avoiding triggers, you can prevent the panic attacks. With the linen example, you can substitute other fabrics for linen. If you are sensitive to sudden changes in lighting, do not go to dance clubs. Just few other changes in your life can protect your sanity.
CONFRONT YOUR TRIGGERS:
There are times when you wish to avoid panic attacks or its other causes, but they are just unavoidable. As if it’s difficult to avoid the smell of a cigarette as we can’t control on whether a passerby smokes or stops. And, thus few patients continuously try to accustom themselves for knowing their sensitivity towards the stimulus by repeating its exposure.
I know that you would be anxious to try so, and why not? None wants to suffer from a panic attack on a purpose. Anyways, after getting used to triggers you can easily get less frequency of panic attacks. Like persons suffering from phobias do expose themselves to the kind of fear. Initially they are face to some kind of threat but slowly they lose their fears.
It is imperative that before confronting and taking on the cause of panic attacks, that you always seek the advice of a doctor or a psychiatrist. He or she may have some pointers regarding this exercise, such as how long you should be in contact with the trigger, or what techniques you can use to fight your fear. If you are a heart patient, then it is not worth for you.
Generally, for most, it is best to increase the exposure gradually. Do not worry if initially you do not succeed in fighting the causes of panic attacks. . It is ok because everything needs time to improve.
